Obama on Defensive

Republicans often like to paint President Obama as soft on Foreign policy, forgetting that reality and proof contradict this claim. This week, Mitt Romney went out to prove that he is still a factor in the Presidential race, so he attacked Obama by saying that his policy of appeasement “betrays a lack of faith in America.”

“Obama doesn’t understand America,” Romney said. “This president appears more generous to our enemies than he is to our friends. Such is the natural tendency of someone who is unsure of America’s strength – or of America’s rightful place in the world.”

Obama wasn’t about to take this lying down, so yesterday he took to the bully pulpit:

“Ask Osama bin Laden and the 22-out-of-30 top al Qaeda leaders who’ve been taken off the field whether I engage in appeasement. Or whoever is left out there, ask them about that.”

Awesome.

Iran Droning On

Iran — In what amounts to a Public Relations orgasm for Tehran, Iran released video Thursday of what they allege is the RQ-170  by Lockheed Martin, an unmanned spy drone they say was brought down by electronic sabotage. Arab countries are always psyched by small victories like this, but the top-secret nature of the technology inside the Drone has Iranians geeked up.

But while the powers-that-be will certainly do their best to replicate or reverse engineer the American technology, many inside Iran worry what the Drone’s presence inside their borders indicates. Was it snooping on nuclear facilities or scouting areas for an imminent attack?

Some on the intraweb are suggesting that the released video of the RQ-170 is a hoax, but the Dept of Defense isn’t denying the drone was captured, only that it was taken down by any type of sabotage of Iran. This is an important denial because the US can’t embolden the enemy by letting them think their planes/drones can be taken down easily.

Either way, the entire mess is just another reminder of how nasty the situation is over there. The US and Israel will NOT allow Iran to get their own nuke, and Iran will fight tooth and nail to get the weapon to allow them to hold the world hostage. Oh, how much fun 2012 will be….

Jail the Wives too

Behind every successful man is a strong, supporting woman;  I didn’t realize the same held true for high-profile pedophiles.  Dottie Sandusky and Laurie Fine have stood by their husbands for many years, and continue to do so in the face of the numerous, horrendous allegations of child abuse. But their stances have been undermined in recent weeks as stories leak that prove that the women knew, or must have known, about the raping of children.

Just this week, one of the Sandusky accusers says that he would scream for help from the basement knowing Ms. Sandusky was home, but she would ignore the screams. Two weeks ago ESPN released tapes of Laurie Fine on the phone with someone she KNEW to be molested by her husband, while discussing it all with complete candor.

Are these women going to be arrested as well? They should be. Of course our law protects husbands and wives from incriminating their spouse, but failure to report child abuse trumps all else. If Joe Paterno and the entire Penn State organization can be taken down for looking the other way, then these women should be held accountable as well. Anyone that allows such behavior to go on deserves to be raped in prison as well, regardless of gender.

School Prayer is Gay?

Texas —  If you haven’t seen the latest crappy Rick Perry for President ad, then prepare yourself to laugh, and maybe throw up a little. In the ad entitled Strong, Gov. Rick Perry stands decked out in his casual “I’m just another cattle rancher” attire and confidently declares:

“I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a Christian. But you don’t have to be in the pew every Sunday to know there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly, but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.”

WTF? I don’t even know where to start. Perry plays off American homophobia by implying American citizens shouldn’t be allowed to sacrifice themselves for their country because of who they’re attracted to. Then he compares their great sacrifice to kids who can’t pray in school or be taught Christian ideals (there’s no chance his calls for Faith in school include Islamic or Jewish prayers in Home Room). How does this moron even have the balls to suggest that Christian kids, who fall in the overwhelming majority, face the same as the trials and tribulations endured by homosexuals around the world?

Why is “Gays in the military” THE one thing that definitively proves there’s something wrong in this country? Why is that the measuring stick? Does Perry really think that this is the key to winning the hearts and minds of America? Perhaps the most ridiculous assertion made by this video is that President Obama has a “war on religion”. What is this idiot talking about and why is this fallacy being perpetuated? Even Tim Tebow would disagree, but that might have something more to do with liking penis than faith. It’s time to ask Rick Perry to leave the Adult table.

Kings Dominion over Schools

Virginia — In yet another example of how Big Business trumps all, Virginia has a law on the books stating that school can’t begin until after Labor day. The rationale behind this law? In 1986, it was decided that the seasonal Amusement Park industry needed those extra summer days to earn higher profits. Before you call me a rabble-rouser, know that the law is referred to as King Dominion’s Law after the DC area themepark.

Governments don’t make decisions like that out of kindness, so obviously a great deal of money was spent by the Amusement Park lobby to make this happen. According to The Slate:

Kings Dominion has given legislators and other state officials “more than $226,000 in campaign contributions. During that time, Kings Dominion also has given members of the General Assembly almost $25,000 in theme-park tickets.

Anheuser-Busch, the beer brewer based in St. Louis, operates Busch Gardens and Water Country USA in Williamsburg. Since 2001, Anheuser-Busch has donated more than $1 million to state-level politicians in Virginia. The company also has given legislators almost $13,000 in tickets to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA.

So even though many feel that a longer school year would benefit kids by teaching them more and keeping them off the street, the needs of the Theme Parks outweigh the needs of the children. Big business over the everyday citizen, every single time.
